Why Hopestory? This project is dedicated to my first grade best friend: Paula. She is very very ill. Her original diagnosis (over 20 years ago) was juvenile diabetes. She was only four, and our paths weren't to cross for another two years. As the years have passed her story has become more serious but she carries a hopeful spirit. She has been in and out of hospital so many times and she jokes that her medical file is as thick as a phone book which, unfortunately, it is. She has had many operations from head to toe as doctors try to control the symptoms and side effects of her illness. What is Hopestory? Your part:This is a place for you to leave your story of hope. Nowadays there are so many tragic and angry stories about healthcare--not just in Canada and the United States --but everywhere. What I am looking for are stories that show the humanity within the medical system. I am interested in stories of hope that were made possible by medical caretakers, Nurses, Midwives, Doctors, Paramedics, Ambulance drivers, Orderlies, etc. These stories are about those times that a medical professional has allowed compassion to be their guide and have "bent the rules" in order for you or your loved one to experience a joyful moment, something meaningful. These events are the sorts of things that never seem to make it into the local newspapers---but we tell our friends and neighbours and we will never forget them. What is Hopestory? My part:What I am going to do is send one "Hopestory" a day to my friend Paula. I figure this is the perfect plan to encourage her and to remind her that there are many many inspiring moments happening within our hospitals and clinics and that if she keeps her eyes open--maybe she'll be able to leave one on our site for you! Right now, I'm dreaming big and have plans on pulling these all together into a book-I guess I'll see how many I receive and take it from there . . .Please click here to post your story of hope! Thanks for sharing your story,Christina Kahlou (Paula's 1st grade best friend). For more information contact Christina using our feedback form.
